What the numbers mean

Total trip miles = loaded miles + deadhead miles. Estimate operating cost by multiplying all trip miles by your total-mile cost per mile, then add trip-specific costs excluded from that rate. Subtract total cost from linehaul and reasonably expected accessorial revenue.

This is a fully allocated decision estimate, not an accounting profit-and-loss statement or a promise of collection. An incremental backhaul decision can have a different cost floor, but the full-cost view helps test business sustainability. Never combine depreciation and the full loan payment in the same cost basis without reconciling the difference.
